Hi xaviell,
Just emerging the 2.4 kernel, compiling and installing it?
I don't think you will encounter much of a problem.
module-init-tools should work under 2.4 as well....
There are even different module listings for the 2 branches in /etc/modules.autoload.d/: kernel-2.4, and kernel-2.6
Good luck

I might be wrong here - so double check, but watch out if you've got nptl in your use flags - I don't know if 2.4 supports that. |

Hmm, You could be right. I hadn't thought about it.
Then there may be other stuff like linux-headers (if 2.6 branch), and perhaps other (experimental) stuff like reiserfs4, etc.
I know I had a system running both, but I went about it the other way: started off using 2.4 and installed 2.6 next to it later on.
I wasn't using anything experimental either: ie linux-headers-2.4.x, just ext3 fs, no evms, no device-mapper, still devfs, ...
So there could be stuff that doesn't work anymore under your 2.4-kernel, but that is something you can expect if you want to use both at the same time: there are differences between 2.4 and 2.6 |

No NPTL with the 2.4er kernels. When doing the transition from 2.4 to 2.6, rebuilding glibc with NPTL is a one way ticket into a dead end street without an easy possibility to go back to 2.4
See the excellent howto of DSD: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/migration-to-2.6.xml |
