|
|
I recently made the mistake of doing an emerge -depclean without taking the necessary precautions.
This caused me to lose my libacl and libattr drivers among other things. I've been working for the last couple of weeks to straighten everything out. I have nearly everything working correctly now, however I'm getting very peculiar results when I reboot.
Sometimes when I boot, everything comes up normally, other times I get messages that it was unable to load the required services. Sometimes the services that won't start are "netmount" and "sshd", but occasionally "bootsplash" will also fail.
I have used rc-update to remove and re-add netmount and sshd to the default runlevel, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Here's what I think are the relevent snippets from the syslog
Code: |
Mar 12 06:34:16 VAIO rc-scripts: Failed to configure wireless for wlan0
Mar 12 06:34:16 VAIO rc-scripts: preup wlan0 failed
Mar 12 06:34:16 VAIO rc-scripts: ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
Mar 12 06:34:16 VAIO rc-scripts: "netmount" was not started.
Mar 12 06:34:17 VAIO rc-scripts: ERROR: Problem starting needed services.
Mar 12 06:34:17 VAIO rc-scripts: "sshd" was not started.

netmount and sshd depend on a working net connection, and from your log it appears that your network connection (wlan0) fails..
This would cause them to fail...
I am unsure about the bootsplash service _________________ All reality is the construct of the observer.

You're right, on those occasions, net.wlan0 is not starting. I thought that was a symptom of the problem rather than the cause.
Any idea why it would fail sometimes (approxamately, but not exactly every other boot) but not others?
After booting if I run Code: | /etc/init.d/netmount start | it starts successfully AND brings wlan0 up successfully.
I don't know if it's relevent but I'm also getting this message everytime I do an rc-update
Code: |
* Caching service dependencies...
* Service 'metalog' already provide 'logger'!;
* Not adding service 'sysklogd'...

What networking hardware are you using?
Does this fail if you power off and restart?
I had a problem similar to this when I was using a very early release of ndiswrapper on one of my laptops, but I have not had anything like this in a very long time.. _________________ All reality is the construct of the observer.

Hmm...
I'm using ndiswrapper.10 for my wireless card...
I'll update it and see what happens. _________________ Darkness is not the opposite of light, it is the absence of it. |

Just upgraded to ndiswrapper version .12 and it's still happening. _________________ Darkness is not the opposite of light, it is the absence of it. |
