emulating 64 bit binaries in 32 bit cpu ?

I've been wondering if its possible to emulate 64 bit binaries on a 32 bit (in my case, P4 HT) cpu. This is for the purposes of cross development. Sort of backwards to the normal requests !

That's not possible, your prosessor must have 64-bit support.

Not really, you can try http://bochs.sourceforge.net/, last time I've checked, it has some x86-64 emulation capability. The project is not updated in a year now, so I am not sure about the current status.

What about qemu or that hammer simulator from amd which was used to port linux on amd64?

Thanks all ... its looks like qemu is nearest,although doesn't support 64bit in user mode. I suspect I will be better off getting an additional server :-)
