solaris question

i ask this question here because it's gentoo related because there is portatis(portage on solaris)
why solaris is often compared to ms windows???
i've searched on the web some inforamtion about solaris and "open"-solaris and i haven't find some suitable information
what kind of features has solaris and "open"-solaris

Solaris is a commercial *nix from Sun. See their feature list. Open Solaris is a work-in-progress to open most of the Solaris 10 codebase (using a MPL-like license known as th CDDL.
