Hey, im not too sure if there was a better place for this, so I just put it up here. Anyway, I successfully got lm_sensors working after alot of time spent....when I do

Code:
 # Sensors

I get this:

Code:
eeprom-i2c-0-50
Adapter: bt878 #0 [sw]
Unknown EEPROM type (0)

asb100-i2c-1-2d
Adapter: SMBus Via Pro adapter at e800
VCore 1:   +1.71 V  (min =  +1.31 V, max =  +1.97 V)
+3.3V:     +3.25 V  (min =  +2.96 V, max =  +3.63 V)
+5V:       +4.95 V  (min =  +4.49 V, max =  +5.51 V)
+12V:     +12.04 V  (min =  +9.55 V, max = +14.41 V)
-12V (reserved):
          -12.45 V  (min =  -0.00 V, max =  -0.00 V)
-5V (reserved):
           -5.22 V  (min =  -0.00 V, max =  -0.00 V)

CPU Temp (Intel):
             +44 C  (high =   +85 C, hyst =   +75 C)
Power Temp:
             +12 C  (high =   +80 C, hyst =   +75 C)
CPU Temp (AMD):
             +34 C  (high =   +80 C, hyst =   +75 C)
ERROR: Can't get VID data!
alarms:

Philips NTSC -i2c-0-61
Adapter: bt878 #0 [sw]

i2c IR -i2c-0-18
Adapter: bt878 #0 [sw]

MSP3435G-i2c-0-40
Adapter: bt878 #0 [sw]

My questions is, it gives two cpu temps, an "AMD" one and an "Intel", I have an AMD Athlon xp 2800+. So is my cpu temp 34 or 44?
And what is the reason for the other temp? (how can it have an intel temp when its an amd chip?).

When I used to use windows, and I used motherboard monitor, it gave me two cpu readouts, 'Socket' and 'Diode'. do the 'intel' and 'amd' temps relate to these temps somehow?

Thanks

It may be that intel and AMD are measured differently (socket and diode?). However, none of these are necessarily correct, they need to be calibrated before you can trust the value. If you don't calibrate, all you can tell is really if temperatures are higher or lower than normal and by how much (which is pretty interesting in itself). For this you can use either value, AMD or intel.

I don't know how important the calibration is. For one thing, the temperature you want is on the die (the small shiny part on top of the cpu), and the sensor is on the motherboard. Secondly, is it really important if your cpu is 75 C or 80 C, what is important is it's pretty hot and somethings probably wrong. :D

If you want to be really exact, I guess you need to insert a very small thermometer between the cpu and the heatsink, and record the difference between this and your mobo sensor. 8)

See this thread for some more tips: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=52815
