Ok, but can't record 24bit from DAB radio and play my ac3 movies :?

Which is what I bought the card for ....

But hey, I'm sure the dev people at alsa will get there soon

I hope u know how to beg on your knees ;)

Audiocards are long timers, there isn't much place for improvements on audio for the next years. So good audiocard is always good investment.

You have to do this to emerge it:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge emu10k1-cvs

I get problems when I try to modprobe after the emerge. I saw an earlier post that had the same problem...but, didn't see the solution.

I get this when I modprobe...

modprobe emu10k1

I looked and I have alsa 0.9.2 on my system. Do I need to unmerge this?

Kinda lost here...I have a regular Audigy2 card. I emerged the driver from portage...not from sourceforge.

Any suggestions what could be the problem?

Haven't had alsa installed, as it doesn't support my EX, but wouldn't expect it to work well with the emu10k1-cvs drivers.

I would try removing ALSA, installing emu10k1-cvs

You need the kernel setup as directed in the emu10k1-cvs ebuild, from memory you just enable sound support and you don't select any drivers in the kernel config ... it modprobes the driver automatically on boot .

I was beginning to dispair, when emu10k1-cvs wouldn't compile with gcc3.3.1r1 :? & after trying 2.6 test3 with no luck with alsa recognising my audigy2 Plat EX

So I had no sound!

But, some GOOD news!! 8)

Today I tried kernel 2.6 test 5 mm2 and it recognises my card and sound works out of the box!!!!! :P

Just thought I'd share the good news ..

Some quick testing, the optical out works, but doesn't pass through ac3, rather seems to convert it to stereo ...

At least I have sound again now! :P

cheers

Sure, I'll check it out and let you know.

I'll check it out though.

Well I think I can help you out there.

The config file (modules aliases and options) is at /etc/modules.d/alsa.
Everytime you modify this file you must run 'modules-update'.

You can find all the known options here.

Thing is they talk about the Audigy 2 Platinum, but not the Ex. I've tried everything I could think of, but maybe I overlooked something.
Good luck. :)

Thanks, thats saved me some time :P

I saw the options in the INSTALL file, but couldn't find how and where to put them! That thread gives me some details which look helpful though.

I'll let you know how I get on ....

fine, the emu10k1-cvs works great with my Audigy2, i've sound out of 5 boxes (is there no support for 6.1?)
okay, now i've an Audigy2 working under Linux, but how can i get 3D Sound out of games (for example UT2003-(Demo)), if i set the Sound Device to 3D Sound-Hardware EAX, nothing happen (i know badly;) )

Have UT2003 3D Sound at all (i'man real 3D Sound, just ike Vietcong or Warcraft3 under W*nd**s)

i've got the good old 2.4.20 Kernel ;)

As far as I know, EAX doesn't work in Linux (at least not with the current drivers).

(and if EAX does not work, why is there an option in the nativ Linux Version of UT?)

Don't know about surround.
As for the option beeing there... Maybe they just ported the entire UI and left all options (even those that don't work :p)...

I had the same problem.
In my case it was a missing option in the kernel configuration:
"Sound/Sound card support" _AND_ "Sound/OSS sound modules" must be enabled.

Not a good start really! I can't get lirc to build with the 2.6 kernel :( not sure whether its gcc 3.3.1 or the 2.6 kernel thats causing the problem.

I'll have to investigate further ...

I have been on half a dozen threads or more tyring to get the Audigy 2 up and running, to no avail. Neither emerging emu10k1-cvs from portage or following tenpin's scripts seems to have worked, nor has alsa.

running modprobe emu10k1, I get:
Quote:

bash-2.05b# modprobe emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r6/kernel/drivers/sound/ac97_codec.o: unresolved symbol sprintf_Rsmp_1d26aa98
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r6/kernel/drivers/sound/ac97_codec.o: unresolved symbol printk_Rsmp_1b7d4074
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r6/kernel/drivers/sound/ac97_codec.o: unresolved symbol __const_udelay_Rsmp_eae3dfd6
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r6/kernel/drivers/sound/ac97_codec.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r6/kernel/drivers/sound/ac97_codec.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gentoo-r6/kernel/drivers/sound/ac97_codec.o: insmod emu10k1 failed

when I run lsmod, I get this:

Quote:

bash-2.05b# lsmod
Module Size Used by Tainted: PF
nls_iso8859-1 2844 1 (autoclean)
nls_cp437 4348 1 (autoclean)

fat 32440 0 (autoclean) [vfat]

hid 13812 0 (unused)
uhci 26400 0 (unused)
usbcore 69472 1 [hid uhci]
bash-2.05b#

When I run xmms, I get the following error:

Quote:

bash-2.05b# xmms

** WARNING **: oss_open(): Failed to open audio device (/dev/sound/dsp): No such file or directory

As you can see, I need some serious help... :(

Which kernel are you using? 2.4.x or 2.6.x?

Which Audigy card is it? Standard or Plat Ex?

Ok, so you have all the choices available to you.

Note: If you are using gcc3.3.x then you may have problems ebuilding emu10k1-cvs.

Option 1:

Use Alsa as many people have said it works well with the standard Audigy2.

Have you tried to install this in the past? If so it needs to be removed if you want to use the emu10k1-cvs ebuild.

Option 2:
emu10k1-cvs. It worked for me on my Audigy2 Plat Ex & I know it works on the standard one.

Have you made the changes in the kernel for this? just enabling sound support as a module & no drivers loaded in the kernel?

Ok, so how do I check to find out which version of gcc I am using? I made the changes to my Kernel so that it supported sound as a module and OSS. After ALSA failed, I did a "emerge -C alsa", but I don't knoo if it got it all. How do I check to see if Alsa is completely off of my system
