I emerged ati-drivers (radeon 8500), got the module loaded, enabled glx in the xorg.conf, and did an opengl-update ati. Then I tried to run xcompmgr using just a light drop shadow, and the entire desktop slowed to a crawl.
Now, I know that xcompmgr causes problems for some people, but I assumed it worked smoothly for others. It works properly, but X just becomes really slow. Why would this be? _________________ Getting there.... |

Do you have this enabled in the Devices section of your xorg.conf?
Code: | Option "backingstore" "true" |
and this in the extensions sectopn?
Code: | Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Enable"
EndSection |

Has you may know xcomposite is still experimental and so a bit buggy, i think its not ready to be usable normaly maybe only for the screenshot or so, not for really working on it.
