|
|
I just discovered today that I cannot play urls in xmms anymore. If I have any on my playlist it will just skip them, and if I try to add one it just does nothing (no error, just won't add it).
When I start xmms I get "Message: fmt 5, channels: 2", which I do not remember getting before, then again I didn't run it in a terminal in a long time. I have emerged a bunch of xmms stuff recently (I believe revdep-rebuild did that), but it just seems to me like it doesn't know what to do with a url.
Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. A couple of days ago, it was working. The things that changed since then:
I did an emerge sync, update world which installed a new X.org version
I installed entrance
I installed the mplayer plugin
I'm trying to emerge the mpg123 plugin, to see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, I'll re-emerge xmms to see.

yes I upgraded xorg too, but I don't see any relevance to this.
A plugin would make more sense, just not sure which one. I will probably re-emerge all.
Let me know if you find out which one. I still have a little while with glibc and kdelibs _________________ fortune men-women:

I re-emerged the mpg123 plugin and now, all URLs give a "cannot connect to host" type of problem.
Next up, xmms itself.

If youre playing MP3s, make sure you do NOT have the mad plugin installed. It can't play remote streams. mpg123 can. Check your emerge -pv xmms and if you see "mad" in there, take it out. Or just look at your xmms prefs (ctrl p) and unload the mad plugin. _________________ If it ain't broke, tweak it. dvds | blurays | blog | wiki |

Booya! That was it! Disabled the plugin and all is fine in the world.
Thanks!

I simply did a emerge -va xmms-mpg123 and that fixed it. For me, it wasn't a problem with any of the plugins. This happened to me after an update as well. Thanks for giving me the clue people |

Disabling the MAD plugin (and later unmerging xmms-mad) got it playing MP3 tracks from the Web again. However, it still won't load .m3u playlists. Any clue what's wrong? _________________ Michael Hill
