We've got new printers: Xerox DocuPrint 240A, which is meant to be used over network...its got IP address 192.168.1.100, but now when I was about to install the printer in cups, I went to linuxprinting.org and found out the printer isnt supported... what should I do? are there any ways around?

I feel your pain. It SSSSUUUUXXX to have Xerox DocuPrint product line. (Xerox, hello? You listening, Xerox Marketing dudes?)

Alot of the feature set like BIN selection wouldn't work.

I've managed to get this working using cups and by selecting one of the postscript language. When I get to work, I'll look up the driver that actually works with COLOR as well as BW.

well do you suggest I try this also? Its only a B&W laser printer, which postscript driver do you suggest? Also.. should I use the regular "foomatic-configure" command to add the printer? I should mention, that I do NOT need to print from the linux box, but from the hosts on the samba domain, which have the correct driver installed. What I was intending to do is putting the printer as one of the shares so that the clients can connect to it.

I found out Xerox lets me download postscript driver for windows. Do you think it would work if I copied the desired .ppd file to Linux and made cups use it?

Code:

lpadmin -p XeroxDocuPrint240A -E -v http://192.168.100 -m whateverthefileiscalled.ppd

like this?

i dunno if it works with this xerox printer, but i've done this on mac os x-boxes and on two gentoo-boxes for a canon gp210/215. the ppd-file i got from windows works on both systems, but on gentoo it was somewhat harder than on mac os.
