Hey I just registered a domain a while ago and I've been fiddling around with Bind for some time now. What I'd like to do i be able to host the domain on my own dns server. It seems i'm missing something. When I go to the change the name servers with my registrar it says I need to supply a name server with a FQDN. Well if i just registered the domain and its not pointing to anything yet, and my DNS server has nothing pointing at it, how do i get them to see each other? Do i need to register my dns server somewhere? or do i need to register a second domain and point it at my dns server? Like i said I'm deffinately missing something here. I was hoping this would be a nice learning experience but so far i haven't been able to find anything what so ever on configuring a new dns server to host a FQDN.
Any help would be greatly appreciated ^_^
Regards,

You need to create name servers with your registrar first. Then you'll need to provide THOSE FQDN for your domain when assigning DNS. How this is done is unique to each registrar.
In a nutshell, you'll need to contact your registrar since there is no protocol for this. |
