Yo dudes.. just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem to me, I am trying to install Gentoo 1.4_rc2 on an Athlon 1.3GHz, 256DDR, with the athlon livecd. I have followed the x86 install guide, but when it comes to unpacking the stage3 tarball i get the following error:

tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers

bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing.
Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout)

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the 'bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Anyhelp with this would be much apreciated! :P Thanks a lot dudes

Sounds like your stage 3 tarball got corrupted in the download. Try again and see if it works.

I had the sma problem many times. Try different mirrors. The file u got was corrupted. Ibiblio and Norway work good for me and sometimes oregonstate. I know it is the file. My suggestion is just to try a different mirror.

Hey all,

I've tried all of the US mirrors have not found uncorrupt stage1 tarball. They all have failed. They all seem to kak on certain /usr/python.h files.

If anyone has a mirror that they have had luck recently with please let me know. I've read good reviews about this linux distribution and whould like to give it a shot.

Thanks in advance

Dudes.. I managed to extract the tarball! I downloaded one from linux.no like one of you said, and it worked perfectly. Now I am having trouble with 'emerge -u world'

it keeps giving me segmentation faults. My cflags are either

-none-
athlon -O3
athlon-tbird -O3

Cheers

Are you overclocking? Can you try swapping half your RAM out to see if it's the problem? Maybe adjusting memory timings in the BIOS to more conservative settings?

Im not overclocking, and I am only using one stick of DDR ram. :(

I have decided to restart the install process, and I will keep you posted if there are any advances. Thanks anyway
