I run xorgconfig, I looked up the specs on the moniter (HP M70) so those should be correct, I have an Nvidia 6800 Ultra so I set video for 256 mb ram.
The only settings I'm unsure of are my kb (hp sk-506) and my Mouse (logitech mx1000)
But even if those are incorrect it should still load...
I get a black screen with a black X in the middle, and sometimes a white background then nothing and cntrl - alt - backspace doesn't exit it.
2.4.28-gentoo-r8
x11-6-8-r1
and I can't seem to find the error log _________________ I am a noob,

Have you run xorgconfig as root?
I poorly configured mouse can commonly cause X to lock up, stupid X... if you are using udev then mouse is probably /dev/psaux I can't remember what it is for devfs.... hmm gentoo might use udev by default now though because I think they were dropping devfs support from linux at about version 2.6.10... _________________ The God idea is growing more impersonal and nebulous in proportion as the human mind is learning to understand natural phenomena and in the degree that science progressively correlates human and social events. -- Emma Goldman |

Luineancaion makes a good point with the /dev/psaux comment ... i just dealt with that one one of my machines ... also try looking at your log files for any useful info ... but it looks like you said you are running a 2.4 kernel ... you might also check that everything in your config file is valid _________________ The NRA says, 'Guns don't kill people - people kill people.'
