I'm trying to install Gentoo 1.4rc2 from the basic x86 LiveCD onto a Dell Latitude CPi A laptop, but the pcmcia modules won't load. The problem seems to be when loading the ds module. I get the error "ds: no socket drivers loaded!" every time. The card I wish to enable is a Xircom RealPort REM56G-100 dual 56k/ethernet card.

I know Linux works on this laptop because as a test I tried booting from a Slackware 8.1 CD and was able to load the drivers and connect to the network fine.

So, any ideas anyone? Surely someone else has had this issue, and it can't be too hard to fix if it works when booting from the Slackware CD.

Found the problem. I needed to load i82365 before trying to load ds; modprobe did not attempt to do this.

Surely someone knew this and could have answered. :(
