I'm trying to install Gentoo 1.4rc2 from the basic x86 LiveCD onto a Dell Latitude CPi A laptop, but the pcmcia modules won't load. The problem seems to be when loading the ds module. I get the error "ds: no socket drivers loaded!" every time. The card I wish to enable is a Xircom RealPort REM56G-100 dual 56k/ethernet card.
I know Linux works on this laptop because as a test I tried booting from a Slackware 8.1 CD and was able to load the drivers and connect to the network fine. |

So, any ideas anyone? Surely someone else has had this issue, and it can't be too hard to fix if it works when booting from the Slackware CD. |

Found the problem. I needed to load i82365 before trying to load ds; modprobe did not attempt to do this.
Surely someone knew this and could have answered. |
