Anyone heard of someone working on support for the fingerprint functionality on the new MS keyboards? For those of you that havent seen them: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=036
I bought one since it was fairly cheap ($59) and came with a wireless mouse. It would be kinda neat to be able to log in with it. _________________ Are you intolerant of intolerant people? Tired of being PC yet? |

JackDog,
Why bother? Biometric data can never be revoked. Plus, someone can lift a print off your glass, use a 75 cent gelatin mold, using electrostatic imprinting with iron filling. |

Wells I aint sayin its a great tech. But logging in with one touch would be pretty neat. Anyone could watch you type in your password. I dont believe this would be any less insecure than a fingerprint if someone had the motivation =) _________________ Are you intolerant of intolerant people? Tired of being PC yet? |

The thing is the information from the biometric device has to be handled by some software element that processes it allowing you to log-in, a kernel module probably. Anybody know of any? _________________ "That question was less stupid; though you asked it in a profoundly stupid way."

It's more secure if you add it to a password. Also, you can't brute-force a fingerprint of a guy in mexico from thailand. I think that's an improvement. The normal cracker doesn't have physical access to the machine or person and the normal person wants a simple password. Then you can get into the whole PKI additions and things. It is a great and simple supplement.
It seems like this is an area that things have
I'm trying to collect information on biometrics at a site I just tossed together: LinuxBiometrics.com. My goal is to bring together individuals interested in this and get support for this in the Linux community rolling. I'm working on finding people with biometric equipment to stop by and spit out data into the forums about their devices like the output of 'lsusb -v' and so forth. _________________ An Evil Genious' Guide to Sheeple and How To Avoid Becoming One | 0x4C9EF4A |
