PostPosted: Sun Mar 20, 2005 12:03 am    Post subject: Help with amaroK 1.2.1 Crashing right after starting[SOLVED] Reply with quote

Hello,

Thank you for looking at my post, I hope someone can prehaps help me with this issue I'm running into when using amaroK.

I just completed a world update for my system using
Code:
emerge world -uD

That updated about 13 packages, some of which included glibc and kdelibs kdelibs, is at kdelibs-3.3.2-r7,qt-3.3.4-r2.

The problem is when i start amaroK it opens up and then shuts back down immediatley, starting it in a term gives me this as the output:
Code:
$amarokapp
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::statusText( const QString& ) to (null)::shortMessage( const QString& )
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::infoMessage( const QString& ) to (null)::longMessage( const QString& )
QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
QPainter::begin: Cannot paint null pixmap
amarokapp: dl-close.c:365: _dl_close: Assertion `imap->l_type == lt_loaded || imap->l_opencount > 0' failed.
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header read failed, errno=104
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header has invalid size (-1)
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header read failed, errno=104
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header has invalid size (-1)
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header read failed, errno=104
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header has invalid size (-1)
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header read failed, errno=104
kio (KIOConnection): ERROR: Header has invalid size (-1)
KCrash: Application 'amarokapp' crashing...
Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy

I would appreciate if anyone can assist me in this issue, I think amaroK is the best player for linux in my opinion and honestly I cannot do without it.

EDIT: I have tried to rebuild amarok as well as revdep-rebuild as well as remove amarok completley and remerge amarok.

Thanks so much for anyones help!

probably your kdelibs messed up with it, either that or qt , please remind me amarok uses qt ??

Hello,

Yes amarok does indeed require qt. I have already rebuilt qt, and I just emerged the new version of kdelibs, when I was doing the world update, it did give me an error that it could not find qt when I was trying to rebuild kdelibs, I rebuilt qt and kdelibs compiled without an issue. Now i'm having the problem I posted above.

Thanks.

so maybe the problem is on your USE or on amarok version, have you tried ~x86 amarok ?

Hello,

I thought 1.2.1 is ~x86 no?

Also these are the USE flags for the amarok build I have done.
Let me know if there is something I can change?

Code:
[ebuild   R   ] media-sound/amarok-1.2.1  -arts -debug +gstreamer +kde -kdeenablefinal -mysql -noamazon +opengl +xine -xinerama +xmms 0 kB

EDIT: I noticed 1.2.2 is now ~x86 I will try to emerge that.

Thanks again.

Hello,

Even with Amarok 1.2.2 I still get the same erorr.

I suppose I will try to rebuild QT and kdelibs once more...

If anyone has any other suggestions I would appreciate it!

Thanks!

Here are my useflags

Code:

Hopefully it helps in some way. Works fine here.

Try this out:

Go to ~/.kde/share/apps and move the amarok folder to something like amarok-bak and then try running it again. The error you posted looks like either a plugin or configuration error.

Thanks for your reply.

That did the trick, sometimes the simple answers are always the best!

Thanks a lot for the help.

EDIT: I actually did delete ~/.kde3.3 not ~/.kde and then restarted amarok, it poped up with the first run wizard and all was well.

That didnt seem to fix my problem. My amarok crashes on startup as well -
amaroK: [Loader] Starting amarokapp..
amaroK: [Loader] Don't run gdb, valgrind, etc. against this binary! Use amarokapp.
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::statusText( const QString& ) to (null)::shortMessage( const QString& )
QObject::connect: Cannot connect Engine::Base::infoMessage( const QString& ) to (null)::longMessage( const QString& )
QLayout: Adding KToolBar/mainToolBar (child of QVBox/unnamed) to layout for PlaylistWindow/PlaylistWindow
amarokapp: dl-close.c:365: _dl_close: Assertion `imap->l_type == lt_loaded || imap->l_opencount > 0' failed.
KCrash: Application 'amarokapp' crashing...

I've remerged qt, kdelibs, kdemultimedia, and amarok, both 1.2.1 and 1.2.2 and deleted the .kde amarok dir.
Any more ideas?

Try compiling without gstreamer (USE="-gstreamer" emerge amarok).

Already not using gstreamer here...

Hello,

Sorry to see you are having the same problem I was having with amarok.
I honestly do not think it's an issue that is compiled into amarok due to amarok was working fine for me until I updated kdellibs.

I didn't move the ~/.kde dir though, I apologize that I didn't note that in my above post.

I moved the ~/.kde3.3 dir to ~/kde3.3-bak and restarted amarok.

Granted, I only use amaroK as a KDE app so all the other settings didn't really concern me.

This might work for you, worth a shot!

Hope this help!

Also if you can post your QT version and your kdelibs version that would be most helpful.

Thanks!

Yeah I already tried to getting rid of my .kde dir and starting with a fresh one, that does seem to fix a lotta KDE related problems. But it only let me get to the amarok splash screen before giving me the same error. Any more ideas?

Well this morning apparently xine-lib-1.0 came out, (~x86) So after emerging that I figured I'd remerge amarok once again and this time that did the trick, its working fine now. Woohoo

Hello,

Glad to hear you resolved the issue, sounds a bit strange though. I was using xine as my enginer as well for amarok when I had the issues, sounds like you were as well. Odd that mine fixed the issue by removing the .kde dir and yours you had to emerge a ~x86 version of xine-lib. I'm not even runing the ~x86 release media-libs/xine-lib-1_rc8-r1 is what I have been using.

This is a glibc bug; see https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70260 and https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86076.

Try downgrading to glibc glibc-2.3.4.20040808 or upgrading to 2.3.5.20050421 or 2.3.5.20050722. (note: the latter two are very, very masked and could break your system.)
