|
|
I tried kernel 2.6.11 (with a built-in ALSA v1.0.8 ) but nvidia GLX doesn't work yet, so I go back to my 2.6.10 kernel (with a built-in ALSA V1.0.6 ).
When I boot with kernel 2.6.10, sound doesn't work anymore.
During the boot sequence, I've got these messages from ALSA :
* Loading ALSA modules :
Could not detect custom ALSA settings. Loading all detected ALSA drivers.
Loading: snd_intel8x0... [OK]
Loading: snd-seq-oss... [OK]
Loading: snd-pcm-oss... [OK]
Restoring mixer levels
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:930: warning name mismatch (Center Playback Switch / Master Playback Volume) for control #2
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1025: bad control.2.value type
Then when I run KDE, KMix crashes every start and no sound works.
If I boot with kernel 2.6.11, everything is fine. But I want to go back to 2.6.10, so is there a way to revert the config files of ALSA to 1.0.6 ? |

i presume you did that as modules on your kernel and i also presume you tried the newest nvidia drivers on your kernel 2.6.11 right ? _________________ Flatland Life is a Choice !

Yep. ALSA drivers are compiled as modules (and loaded by hotplug).
No, I didn't try the newest nvidia drivers as they are still marked as unstable. And many threads on the forum seems to show that the newest drivers did resolve the compiling problem but that the drivers are marked unstable because lots of people get some X crashes with them. |

I installed them. Everything's fine for the moment. I'll let you know if I've got some crashes. |

I am using 2.6.11-gentoo-r4 and my nVidia GLX works without a hitch. You did make sure to update the /usr/src/linux sym link to point to the proper sources and then remerge nvidia-glx, right? |
