I'm trying to configure this PCI wifi card on Gentoo and I got almost everything ok at the first shot but I can't get WEP working, so my connection is always unencrypted and unsecure.
The ndiswrapper pass is done and work perfectly, and now I'm using this howto to end with the config
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Wireless_Configuration_and_Startup
I'm not using any AP, so I'm in ad-hoc mode cause my Gentoo box will be the internet gateway with a notebook as client using shared internet connection. Everything works, the notebook wirelessy surf the net but, as I said, without encryption. I'm using the /etc/conf.d/wireless config file, and I'm pretty sure I configured it well.
The problem is that I can't even set the key via iwconfig from commandline, it tells me
Code: | shadow init.d # iwconfig wlan0 key s:foobaa
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

any hint?
I also tried wpa_supplicant but I don't understand the config file very well...I copied a config find on the forum here https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-271639-highlight-wmp54g.html but when I start net.wlan0 it hangs there til a timeout comes. While "hanged" I can see wlan0 up via ifconfig, but no IP is assigned to it
As I said: I need an ad-hoc connection mode, casue I have no AP at all. _________________ http://www.heavy-metal.it
