I used the same config from the previous kernel 2.6.7 . I've even tried passing vga parameters in grub but still nothing. dmesg gives me:

Looks like it's a frame buffer problem? |

try to change 'VESA driver type' to vesafb
IIRC, the newer kernel has vesafb-tng as default. |
