I have been trying for a while now to get steam to run on my AMD64 machine. I updated the profile to 2005.0 and that only allowed me to install wine and cedega. Now I do this and the results is as follows....

bash-2.05b$ cedega /home/victordavion/Desktop/SteamInstall_CS.exe
/usr/bin/cedega: line 348: 20554 Segmentation fault $SHELL -c "$RUNWINE $WINVER -debugmsg $DEBUGMSG -use-dos-cwd $WORKDIR $EJECT $DT -- $COMMAND_LINE"

If you need to see any more info just tell me the command and I'll post it. I really want to get Steam working on here so I can go frag some people. =/

I was having the exact same problems and have managed to solve it. What kernels are you guys running and have you got nptl support???

All I did was upgrade to the latest kernel version
Code:
gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.14-r4

and emerged the latest nvidia drivers
Code:
nvidia-glx-1.0.7167-r1

NB: You may need to add them to your /etc/portage/packages.keywords file

Hey,

I'm running:

Code:
mjg91 mjg91 # emerge -s gentoo-dev-sources nvidia-glx
Searching...
[ Results for search key : gentoo-dev-sources ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]

*  sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources
      Latest version available: 2.6.9-r14
      Latest version installed: 2.6.9-r14
Size of downloaded files: 35,641 kB
      Homepage:    http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd/gentoo-dev-sources
Description: Full sources including the gentoo patchset for the 2.6 kernel tree
      License:     GPL-2

Searching...
[ Results for search key : nvidia-glx ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]

*  media-video/nvidia-glx
      Latest version available: 1.0.6629-r1
      Latest version installed: 1.0.6629-r1

I guess I could upgrade - I'm trying to keep my system on stable as much as possible at the moment, but i may be tempted to upgrade if it'll solve my problems!

Do the other nvidia packages (kernel, settings...) have to be ~amd64 aswell?

Code:
[blocks B     ] app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-nvidia (is blocking media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.7167-r1)

I get that, even with emul-linux-x86-nvidia in the packages.keywords as ~amd64. I've currently got:

Code:
sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources ~amd64
media-video/nvidia-glx ~amd64
media-video/nvidia-kernel ~amd64
app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-nvidia ~amd64

Yup

Yeah if you
Code:
emerge nvidia-glx -Oav

It will emerge nvidia-glx without the emul-linux-x86-nvidia but you will need to upgrade this package aswell.

Yeah that will work

Nah those lines are what give me the blocker in the 1st place...

I looked inside the ebuild for nvidia-glx and under the dependencies it has emul-linux-x86-nvidia with a minus sign next to it. Could it be that this module is now part of nvidia-glx? Can you do an "emerge -s emul-linux-x86-nvidia -s" for me to see if you have it installed please?

Glad to see you got it working.

In relation to your previous question about emul-linux-x86-nvidia I'm currently running 1.0.6629, doesnt seem like 1.0.7167 been released yet even under ~amd64 (according to packages.gentoo.org anyway) Hence the block :P

[EDIT]: Darn no cheers smilie 8O
