That was just a typo on my part (I'm browsing on this machine, installing on another).

I have followed what I believe to be are the proper steps for implementing this ebuild...

Code:

Create /usr/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources dir, then append /usr/portage to the overlay directive in make.conf
mv ebuild to the previously created directory
ebuild /usr/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources/nitro-source-2.6.11-r2.ebuild digest

It thinks about it for a second, then reports...

Code:

!!! doebuild: /usr/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources/nitro-source-2.6.11-r2.ebuild not found for digest

There is always the chance I am stupid and I made a typo somewhere, but I've double checked everything. This is my first time playing outside the real portage tree :)

Try this:
Code:
cd /usr/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources/
ebuild nitro[TAB] digest

AFAIK you have to be in the ebuild dir to make digest.

Could you post specific version numbers? "latest" wont mean the same thing next time someone read your posts.

" the latest headers " does not mean much now if you cant be more specific.

I have alsa-driver-1.0.8 and no probs, so it would be good to know what versions of what pkg may have issues.

Thx 8)

You don't.... ;)

You can also use this:
Code:
emerge --digest nitro-sources
It creates the checksums while (or before) emerging.

Just my 2 cents...

I've been occupied by other projects for a bit (and gotten considerably lazier in the meantime), but I note that nitro has been somewhat...sluggish lately. Originally, I shifted my focus to other things because seppe had returned and wanted to make a few releases, but he seems to have disappeared once again. Perhaps even more disturbing is the suspension of his web site.

Since I'm still technically on the nitro team (we have a team?), I'll most likely have a release out in the middle of this week if seppe hasn't resurfaced by then.

Anyone trying to contact me on jabber should stop trying. I'll be off jabber for a while until I get a client that doesn't suck, and/or fix my current one.

I'm still alive, but I have holidays, I'm home alone, I got some work for school and I'm addicted to World of Warcraft :)
About the hosting: I'm moving to another host which gives me more than twice the webspace and bandwidth for half the price I pay now.

Yeah, I posted about this earlier - when I use firefox with high CPU load (happened once when using konqueror too), my computer will sometimes exhibit the following behavior:
-The screen freezes, except for the mouse pointer
-The mouse/keyboard buttons stop responding
-Running programs (i.e. xmms) will continue to work for a few seconds, then crash

Obviously at this point I have to do a hard reboot. :? No fun. Somebody else said they have the same problem.

Those lockups might be caused by cfq. There's -ck3 out which includes two fixes for cfq. But that's only a guess. :)

Btw, I can't download the ebuild and nitro-sources.org seems to be down. Could someone please mail me the ebuild to root (at) neonik [dot] net and the patch please please please. :)

You say this happens in other browsers too. What if it's a problem with your network card driver? Which one do you use?

Hmm, didn't think of that - it didn't seem related to network activity, but it could be. I use the sundance driver.

Here's my output..

Code:
bash-2.05b# ebuild nitro-sources-2.6.11-r2.ebuild digest
!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'sys-kernel/nitro-sources-2.6.11-r2' not specified:
!!!            None
!!! aux_get(): ebuild path for 'sys-kernel/nitro-sources-2.6.11-r2' not specified:
!!!            None
doebuild(): aux_get() error reading sys-kernel/nitro-sources-2.6.11-r2; aborting.
bash-2.05b#

Any ideas? I followed the directions here..

https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-287962-start-0.htm

Specifically
Quote:
1. download the ebuild
2. mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources
3. mv the ebuild to /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/nitro-sources (or wherever your PORTDIR_OVERLAY points to)
4. open /etc/portage/package.keywords (if it doesn't exist create it)
5. add "sys-kernel/nitro-sources ~x86" without the quotes and with the appropriate architecture (for me its ~x86")
6. ebuild nitro-sources-2.6.10-r4.ebuild digest
7. emerge nitro-sources
8. cd /usr/src/ and behold your nitro-sources
9. remerge any modules (nvidia...)

Did you actually specify where your PORTDIR_OVERLAY points to in your /etc/make.conf?

Steps 6 and 7 should really be one step that reads `emerge --digest nitro-sources`.

The lockups are not caused by nitro or whatsoever other kernel ::))) there is a long thread about this problem https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-198023-start-425-postdays-0-postorder-asc-highlight-.html
I have a strong suspicion that this is caused by the ipv6 flag in the new gentoo 2005.0 profile. I have compiled the kernel with tcp/ip6 and since than have no freezes
Code:
19:02:03 up 1 day, 11:22,  5 users,  load average: 2.21, 2.31, 2.09
I run 2.6.11-nitro2 (patched for alsa-1.0.9). I think it's a glibc problem or xorg problem and has nothing to do with the kernel.

I always use -ipv6 when compiling, mostly because when I had it enabled, I couldn't access a number of websites/servers.

just trying the nitro-sources and seems fglrx does not load at boot... do i have to remerge the ATI drivers again with the new kernel?

EDIT: remerge fixed it :)

Yes you have to do this always if you compile a new kernel. But you just solved it by yourself. :)

Do you mean that I'm having lockups because I don't have ipv6 compiled into my kernel? Like vipernicus, I've also used the "-ipv6" USE flag in compiling all of my packages.
