Hi Everyone,

I've been using nitro-sources since 2.6.9 - since I updarted to reiser4 - and they work flawless. So great work!! My best thanks to the nitro devs. Keep up the good work!

Since when is the nitro thread in unsupported software?? Not that I do not understand the gentoo devs - or who ever is responsible for that - , but it just occured to me to be new...

Cheers
V.

1. The "Unsupported Software" forum is brand new.
2. I just got my first crash with this kernel, same as with the last. Does anyone have any clue what's causing this, or what forensics I could do to solve this mystery?
3. I'm working on fixing fbsplash - hopefully I'll have an update soon

EDIT: Nothing yet - I managed to get the console backgrounds to work by upgrading splashutils again, but my boot is still hella ugly.

For the crash? No error, it just tends to lock up when I'm using firefox (everything freezes except my mouse pointer).
No error that I've noticed for fbsplash either - in silent mode it still draws the bootup text, and in verbose mode it still draws the progress bar. 8O

I noticed a few interesting lines on the end of my Xorg.0.log.old after one of my softlocks:
Code:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2, 6, 0x8000, 0x00007100, 0x00002858, 1)
(WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (1, 6, 0x8000, 0x00007100, 0x00002858, 1)
(WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2, 6, 0x8000, 0x00007100, 0x0000288c, 1)
(WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (1, 6, 0x8000, 0x00007100, 0x0000288c, 1)

I know (WW)=warning. Does this mean anything?

I try to compile it with nitro source on my ibook g3 but don't work:

->make menuconfig
HOSTCC scripts/kconfig/mconf.o
SHIPPED scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.c
HOSTCC scripts/kconfig/zconf.tab.o
HOSTLD scripts/kconfig/mconf
scripts/kconfig/mconf arch/ppc/Kconfig
file kernel/power/Kconfig already scanned?
make[1]: *** [menuconfig] Error 1
make: *** [menuconfig] Error 2

I have tried without nitro patches and work good with vanilla 2.6.11.5

Hmm, moving from 2.6.10-nitro4 to 2.6.11-nitro2. I have problems with the filesystem (reiser4). I used make oldconfig, kernel compiled fine, booting fine, but when the init process starts, and it gets to "remounting file system read/write", it hangs. My / is reiser4.

Any ideas? I'm using 8k STACKS (which is supposed to be correct with reiser4), but I also tried with 4k STACKS (since I could not remember which one was correct at first).

Hm... After a while of using I noticed two things annoying me. The first thing is that I can switch from display to console but not back. If I do this I see the half display is normal but the other is screwed up, the screen is freezed and I have can't switch back to console to restart X. The other thing is that my Gnome sometimes hangs during emerge. If emerge is finished everything is quite well.

yes, reiser4 sometimes hangs the kernel on mounting/unmounting things. there is a fix available, if you haven't found it already (and can't with the search on the forum): https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-312598-highlight-reiser4+mount*.html

There seems to be the fix.

PostPosted: Thu Mar 24, 2005 8:48 pm    Post subject: smbd not running; nitro-problem? Reply with quote

Hi Everyone,

I know it only belong half way here, but I am curious whether is experiancing the sam problem. I recently tried to upgrade samba to 3.0.12 and the demons (more precisely smbd) wouldn't start. I had the same issue with 3.0.11, but thought I would get solved, so I just downgraded... I am just right now testing samba with 2.6.11-love2 - *duc for incoming strike* - but it is the same here. I do have a gentoo-dev-sources based workstation, but as I am rarely back home I cannt really test it, but IIRC I upgraded to 3.0.11 without problems.
I'd love to test my system with a gentoo- or vanilla-kernel, but I use reiser4 on root and home; and changing those two fs would take much to long than I can afford.
Is there a possibility do get gentoo-sources resier4-patched?? I am more a better user than a hacker, I someone could previde a patchset... pretty please with a cherry on top :D [EDIT:] found the patchset [/EDIT]

Cheers
V.

PS. When can we expect to get a nitro-2.6.12_rc1?

Thanks, but actually, the patch is already incorporated. I guess you mean this one-liner:
+ list_del_init(&object->i_sb_list);

I will search the reiser4 maillinglist a bit. Maybe I'll find something.

Mine locks up whenever I run 'modprobe bttv'... worked fine in 2.6.10-nitro4.

Any ideas?

What happened to the mouse-polling patch? Usbview shows me that my polling rate is still 10ms.

Just for the record: Without ebuild i download 2.6.11 from kernel.org, extract this to /usr/src/ then copy the nitro patch in the 2.6.11 folder and issue
Code:
patch -p0 --verbose -i patch-nitro-2.6.11.5
right?
I'm fooling around with ubuntu a little at the moment and thought i'd insert a nitro into my Ubuntu ;) but it seems i missed something or so because with the kernel-sources 2.6.11.5 the patch didn't apply.. well i'll look into it with 2.6.11

edit: fixed code-line, question: am i missing anything (seems as if) i tried -p0 -p6 -p7 -p5 but i seem to be totally off track at the moment..

I always use
patch -p1 < ../path/to/patch/patch-nitro[tab] [enter]

should work...

ah yes -p1 works.. seems i confused something, i counted the characters, but what counts is how many parts of "text-" have to be substracted to get the kernel ver. i think
