For hours and days I have tried to track down the occasional crashes of the combination nvidia-1.0.7167 + kernel-2.6.10. The freezes only occured when switching between X and the text console, no matter if AGP was used or not and no matter if there was a framebuffer active or just the plain VGA 80x25. When kernel-2.6.11 came, nvidia refused to work totally.
I was surprised to find that udev caused the problems. After a switch back to devfs, everything runs like butter - with kernel-2.6.11-mm4.
Note that my system is ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86".
Though everything works at the moment, I would love to get udev back, so I can use /dev/usbstick, /dev/cardreader etc. Any ideas, comments or similar experiences? |
