Hi all,
I recently moved to 2.6.12
However when trying to use the cisco vpnclient I get really long hangs and much worse performance.
The version I have installed is:
net-misc/cisco-vpnclient-3des
Latest version available: 4.6.03.0190
Latest version installed: 4.6.03.0190
Size of downloaded files: 1,796 kB
Homepage: http://cco.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps2308/index.html
Description: Cisco VPN Client (3DES)
License: cisco-vpn-client
Here is a sample of what is happening:
* Starting Cisco VPN Client ... [ ok ]
Cisco Systems VPN Client Version 4.6.03 (0190)
Copyright (C) 1998-2005 Cisco Systems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
Client Type(s): Linux
Running on: Linux 2.6.12.1 #1 Fri Jun 24 19:05:32 PDT 2005 i686
Config file directory: /etc/opt/cisco-vpnclient
Initializing the VPN connection.
and then it hangs for 1-5 mins
It was basically instantaneous before
I am not sure what was wrong. I updated to 2.6.12.1 and I still have to same problem. However when I try it in 2.6.11.11 I have no problem whatsoever.
Anyone else know what is wrong? Thanks for the suggestions...=P |

Maybe you can use vpnc instead. I use it with 2.6.12 and it works just fine.
Cheers

I've had the same problem since moving to kernel 2.6.10...see my post and let me know if this sounds familiar.. https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-286290-highlight-cisco+vpn.html
It definetly has something to do with the hardwired NIC only. My wireless works fine. I even have a system lockup if I have my wireless NIC working and then static my hardwired NIC with an IP to do some network sniffing on my network and then after about 30 seconds my system freezes, even though I'm not using the hardwired NIC for sending any network traffic out, it's just listening. This is definetly a 2.6.10 kernel module issue. By the way what NIC are you having this problem with? |

No that is not my problem. I have a different ethernet card a 10/100 RTL8139.
Actually on my laptop (across wireless) I see this problem the most. Sometimes it works fine on my desktop with the NIC I wrote above. My wireless adapter is a broadcom, so I use the Linuxant driverloader (works very well). I have also noticed that when I have successfully gotten it to work on my laptop (read: connected fine to the vpnserver), if I do some "large" rsync operations the machine hangs/freezes and I have to kill the vpn connection (which takes a while since it gets extremely sluggish). Don't know why this is the case. Anyone else know what is going on here? Maybe I'll try out the vpnc client. I have been using this for a long time on my laptop when it was a slackware machine, I have only seen this problem when I moved to gentoo (not that this is a gentoo problem per se, there just must be some difference there that I have not thought of). |
