I was about to download the ISO via FTP but I didnt know if I should use binary or ASCII. I want to use binary but a friend of mine said binary is for graphics and everything else should be downloaded as ASCII. Which method should I use to download the Gentoo ISO? What are the general rules for using binary or ASCII? |

Download the CD image as binary.
ASCII is text mode and binary is non-text. Most of the time, using binary even for text works better than ASCII since some non-standard (no wait - non-ASCII) character sets can get garbled in transfer when using ASCII transfers.
