HP Pavilion 6343

It has a sis 5598 chipset. Some googling turned up it runs a cmi8330 sound chipset. Linux runs fine on there as it is my server, but i have shoutcast and i was going to stream a radio station (hooked to line in) so i compiled in driver support through alsa as modules, and installed the modules.

BarfTheDog linux # modprobe snd-cmi8330
FATAL: Error inserting snd_cmi8330 (/lib/modules/2.6.10/kernel/sound/isa/snd-cmi8330.ko): No such device

Any ideas?

btw, I am running vanilla 2.6.10 / 2004.3

I have never had good luck compiling alsa into a kernel. I usually just enable soundcard support, then use alsaconf... (emerge alsa-utils, alsa-driver, alsa*)
