I've had the same problem since migrating two of my systems to Gentoo. :^( Both would switch the (monitor|builtin LCD) to power-saving mode under Mandrake, so the hardware is definitely capable....
Neither my xorg.conf nor my old XFree86-4 have any mention of dmps. Where is documentation on how to correctly configure that? _________________ Michael Hill

Hmmmm... cool, if you're on 2.6 you don't need to emerge acpid. I see I have a [kacpid] process running, and /proc/acpi/info returns the version. So far, so good.
But when I try the xset command for an immediate test, it does the same, both on my laptop and my desktop with external LCD: They go blank, but the backlight is still on and the monitor is not in power-saving mode. I note that the instructions on the Wiki page are for XFree86, not Xorg; not sure if they would be compatible with Xorg's config. Even if they are, it appears from the xset that something still isn't working quite right. _________________ Michael Hill
