Hi all,
i have just installed gentoo from the stage1 tarball. Up untill this point things were moving along pretty smoothly. I even have X running with the nvidia-drivers but when trying to install kde things are breaking down. I get the following error while compiling app-admin/fam-oss-2.6.9
g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.. -I../include -DCONFIG_ETC_CONFIG_PATH=\"/etc/fam.conf\" -march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -c Client.c++ -o Client.o >/dev/null 2>&1
mv -f .libs/Client.lo Client.lo
/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link g++ -march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -o libfam.la -rpath /usr/lib -export-symbols fam.sym Client.lo fam.lo -lstdc++
rm -fr .libs/libfam.la .libs/libfam.* .libs/libfam.*

this is the command i'm using:
USE="kde qt -gnome -gtk" emerge kde
with
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"
set in /etc/make.conf. What's going on here?
Regards,

What happens if you manually emerge fam-oss? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

Is this a fresh install, or did you have a previous version of Gentoo running? _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

After the bootstrapping process and running "emerge -u system" and "emerge -u world" I did change the ACCEPT_KEYWORDS variable from it's default value into "~x86" and reran "emerge -u world". As a result of that a bunch of packages were updated. Could this be the cause of my problem? |

It could be, but I'm not really certain. Searching, for "all" using "failed set dynamic section sizes", turns up similar problems, just not with fam-oss.
The problems seem related, but I'm not really sure. For whatever reason, they haven't caught the attention of the experts. _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

What is the output of: Code: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" emerge -vup --deep fam-oss |

it says:
Code: |
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild U ] dev-libs/expat-1.95.5-r1 [1.95.4]
[ebuild U ] media-libs/fontconfig-2.1-r1 [2.1]
[ebuild N ] app-admin/fam-oss-2.6.9
|
which is exactly the same output if I use ~x86 instead of x86. Installing these extra libs doesn't help the problem in any case. I suspect something went wrong while updating gcc. Gonna try and reinstall from scratch with ~x86 set from the beginning and see if that makes a difference. |

All it took for me to fix it is emerge gcc again. |

That did not do it for me. I have the latest and greatest (?) of everything, so
Quote: | ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" emerge -vup --deep fam-oss | gives only fam-oss, still won't install. |
