3d acceleration on Powerbook?

I've got the 15" powerbook with 1.5ghz proc. I just installed gentoo on it, I've used gentoo for quite a while with x86, but decided I wanted to have it on my laptop too.

I've read in the past that there is no 3d acceleration on powerpc as of yet... Is this likely to change anytime in the future? Is it not possible to play even quake3 under linux on ppc?

For 3D support on radeon chipsets > 9200, see http://r300.sourceforge.net. This project has preliminary support for 3D on newer chipsets and will probably be the project to watch for future support.
