I am stuck at the end of the install.

I just got "done" doing a stage3 networkless install on an amd64 system.

I followed the amd64 install doc to the letter, but still had a couple problems.

I got stuck at emerge gentoo-sources, but found solution online.
I had a hard time with modules and the kernel.
I ended up autoloading a bunch of .ko that don't load [!!]

I am currently stuck trying to install the GRP stuff.

I got the 2005.0 universal dvd and packages dvd for gentoo store.

I just typed "export PKGDIR="/mnt/cdrom"

Then it says install the packages I want.
Where do I see the available packages?
Kinda glazes over this in install doc.

I did emerge --usepkg kde
emerge --usepkg gnome
"" fluxbox
""openbox

I am new to gentoo.
This was by far the most complicated install I have done so far.

Regards,
Blair

You're booting your newly installed Gentoo, mounting the package CD/DVD whatever it is and changing the PKGDIR="/mnt/dvd_mount_point". Then emerge -k FOO and it'll install a package without compiling it.

Exactly - install anything you want by:
Code:
emerge foo

Go to your portage overlay, typically /usr/portage and you'll see many programs sorted by type. You may also visit http://packages.gentoo.org/ to determine the name of a package if you don't know it.

Thought that was explained in the handbook...

Happy gentooing, anyway!:D

If it was I missed it.

I used the gentoo AMD64 install handbook, and the one that was on CD1.

The online version of the handbook has been much updated with corrections. Please refer to it instead of the CD version if at all possible.

I learned about the difference between the to documents last night.
The online had the fix for the gentoo-sources kernel.

It was just a more difficult install than I was planning on. (Used to hand holding gui installers like anaconda.)

I still can't understand emerge without internet connection. (off the package CD.)
