I've been using Slackware for about a year now, and decided that I wanted to try Gentoo.
This is my fourth attempt at an install (universal, stage 3)

(System is Intel D845, P4(1.5ghz), ATI Radeon 7500, onboard Intel Pro 10/100 NIC, onboard Intel I810 sound)

I finally made it through the install to a bootable machine, but I have a couple problems.

First, during boot this line appears ( I'll deal with the second problem at a later time)

---- /sbin/rc line 271 /sbin/devfsd/ no such file or directory (!!) ---

All other lines end in (ok)

This may not be an exact duplication of the line, but I hope you can get the idea.
Can someone tell me how to fix this or is it even a problem?

ps
Also would add that I am using kernel-2.6.11-gentoo-r4

Looks like the /sbin/devfsd executable is missing 8) It belongs to the devfsd package. What does
Code:
emerge --search devfsd

tell you? Is it installed?

FF,

Daniel

Thanks for the reply, tuam

I will give your suggestion a try.
Also, I have been doing some "googling" for devfsd and I think that maybe it is no longer used in the latest
kernels. Replaced by udev.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Do you have devfs selected in your kernel? It maybe better to just upgrade to udev. All you should have to do is emerge udev and then recompile your kernel without devfs.

Here is a link to a quick udev how to:
