Aside from opening my movie files through one instance of Mplayer, how do I get rid of multiple instances still showing up

you could use pkill mplayer to kill them all. It would kill them all though, not just ones not being used. what do you mean by dead? are they still eating up cpu? if so, I can't think of an easy way to get that to happen..

They were dormant, I just wanted a clean response when I did ps -e. I don't kjnow why they linger. firefox-bin and xmms do the same.
