OK, I've been pulling my hair out looking for a decent solution to no avail (but still looking)...
I have a client running Gentoo and Cyrus as the IMAP server. There is an internal corporate issue that emails are being deleted (expunged) that may still be important. The owner has requested a folder that he has access to for recoverying deleted mail, which he expunge himself if need be.
This obviously is a very tricky situation, not technically but ethically, well perhaps it may be technically as well. We need to utilize some scripting mechanism on the server that can move an email being deleted (expunged) to a folder unbeknownst to the user.
Essentially, user deletes a mail from their client, and the message is no longer in their account, as far as they can see it has been deleted, but has actually been moved to a different folder that they cannot see.
Please note, I am not referring to "move deleted to trash" that is incorporated in most clients. I am referring to a mechanism on the server side that handles the delete, regardless of whether it was expunged from a folder or "emptied" from trash.
Has anyone had any experience with this? We have seen numerous messages posted asking the same thing, but never any answers (never a good sign).
Thanks! |
