|
|
Hey. Im currently using ALSA and I have sound, but anytime I try to play any games, it loads but without sound. All of the games I run thru terminal load up but with this error:
open /dev/[sound/]dsp: Device or resource busy
Ive done a fuser -v /dev/dsp and for /dev/sound and nothing is using it. I dont see whats causing these problems, since my music and such works, just games dont. Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance
PROBLEM SOLVED:
SOLUTION: Just add -arts in USE="" in /etc/make.conf and save. Then just reemerge all the games and your good to go!

"resource busy".. prob. a sound server layin' around as tlailax said..You could get sounds in a oss/alsa game through an soundserver, but its usually not that fast, or at least its more resource-consuming. turning it off should be enough _________________ printf("format string what?"); |

1. i have a sound blaster live and don't use arts (or any other sound server. actually i just reinstalled gentoo and didn't install arts at all), and have no problems with the card being used by multipe applications at once (using alsa and no dmix plugin) . so check and see if you it at all.
2. if you still want the arts server, did you try the options in the kde contro panel for "auto suspend if idle for" that suspends the arts server and let's normal applications use the sound card as well ? |

Not all cards can be used in duplex mode _________________ printf("format string what?"); |

Also try configuring dmix so you can mix sound channels in software mode!
