Ok so I have gentoo 2005.0 installed... without an GUI or X, only took about 5 hourse approx... Now When I try to get X to run it crashes... And I cannot post i up here because I cannot connect to the net right now. It seems though My ps/2 mouse is not detected although when I run

cat /dev/psaux

The screen allows me to do theat wierd thing with thre mouse also, xorg.conf doesn't look like it has the info that gentoos documentation has in it, as far as modes go an protocols. I am currently running an AMD athlon xp +2500 with a Chaintech Geforce fx 5200 256mb ram ,512mb ddr ram. So if anyone can shed some light on to what I should do? (Also it says in the manual Xorg takes long to compile it only took about 3-9 miiinutes, which doesn't seem that long, so not sure if there s a problem with compiling, everyhting checks out okay though)
Should I unemerge X.org ? I also have gnome installed (Binaries) should those be uninstalled as well? Thanks

You have to edit your xorg conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf with your fav editor (nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.cong if you use nano) and go into the mouse Section labeled Input device i believe. Then changed "auto" to "IMPS/2" then chan the dir it has to "dev/input/mice" or "dev/mice" depending on your mice dir. That should make your mouse show up! Good Luck

I'll give that IMPS/2 a try...

xorgconfig completed but still did not work....

I think the mouse is only art of the problem because the screen goes black an then says Xorg error.... I guess I shold follow the manual an build the xorg.conf file....
