just did an emerge -u world and now i do not get any sound... i use to have sound before i did the emerge -u world... what went wrong... what do i do...

No idea what went wrong as I know not which packages you updated ..
but have you checked your alsamixer settings to make sure you have not muted your sound settings????

actually now i do have sounds when i play video clips or mp3s...

what i do not have are the system sounds... like before it makes a sound when i open a window or when kde starts... now i dont hear those sounds... i even went to the control center and looked at the sound & multimedia section... i tried to test the sound files that are there but still no sound...

solved it already... i just went into control center and changed the player setting and set it to external then used /usr/bin/play... now everything work fine...
