|
|
I am looking to install some instant messenger clients for use with icq, jabber, irc and msn. Does anybody have any recommendations for one that these 'protocols'? I know there are quite a lot, have tried gaim, licq, lirc, psi. These manage to do the job but maybe there are some better clients out there |

I like sim, but it doesn't run very stable on my system (perhaps because of amd64) and it doesn't support irc (at least I don't think it does).
Also kopete isn't bad at all and supports all protocols you listed. |

by better i mean for instance useful features, ease of use and functionality. for instance some of the clients i am using are difficult to configure, don't have many add. features. Appearance comes into it as well, are there clients out there that have a nicer interface, once again, easy to use? just tryna find out what the general popular consensus is. thanks |

If you use Gnome, you should definitely try to run Gaim... It's becoming more and more integrated to this Desktop Environment, and has a lot of great features... Especially in the new Gnome 2.10, it interacts quite well with Evolution 2.2.
Another thing worth mentioning is the new release of gaim-vv, the multimedia version of Gaim... The guys just released version 1.2.0, supporting Yahoo! video, and it's just the beginning... So maybe we'll be able to do videoconferencing with Gaim in a not-so-far future? |
