checking whether autoconf works... no

I can't get automake installed - it dies with the message in the title.

I've re-emerged autoconf and autoconf-wrapper, as well as automake-wrapper - but everything I do results in the same error...

Any ideas?

sheesh - of course after struggling with this for an hour and finally post a question... I figure out immediately after posting. heh

Anyhow, it turned out that m4 was the culprit ( m4 caused the autoconf test to fail ) - I recompiled it with less gnarly cflags and things work ok now.
