Ok, I am trying to get the /usr/bin/time utility to report the max resident memory and the average memory used during the run of a program. The problem is time keeps returning 0. Has anyone else tried this? experienced this? I am using the following command if that helps

/usr/bin/time -f "Time=%E Maxmem=%M Avgmem=%K" mycommand

I was hoping this would return the memory used by mycommand but all i get is this

Time=0:31.16 Maxmem=0 Avgmem=0

any ideas would be appreciated!
