|
|
Ive just upgraded my system to:
AMD64 3500+, A8N-ALI MB,1gig RAM, SATA HD, 6600GT 256meg.
OS: Gentoo amd64 2005.0
Emerged nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx run opengl-update nvidia.
changed xorg.conf to use nvidia driver ( from "nv")
That all seems to work fine.. X loads fine.. When I run glxgears its bloody slow:
12 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2.400 FPS
12 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2.400 FPS
12 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2.400 FPS
13 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2.600 FPS
10 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2.000 FPS
My Laptop has geforce 2 go and it gets 800fps..
If I run glxinfo:
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
server glx version string: 1.3
server glx extensions:
Which indicated direct rendering is on...
The other error I noticed is X us complaining about DRI:
System _glxGetActiveScreen from modules /usr/lib64/modules/extensions/libdri.a unresolved!!
Ive spend ages on this... unmerging..etc.
Btw, I have XP installed and the performance in Doom3/Farcry is great.. So I know the card is working..
Any help on this would be great
Cheers

You should try another version of the nvidia drivers (I use 1.0.7167-r1), and post the relevant parts of your xorg.conf. |

Ok.. I managed to fix it.
It was something to do with the kernel.. I was using genkernel.
I just compiled my own kernel and re-emerged the nvidia stuff.. Ive gone from 2.4fps to:
38894 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7778.800 FPS
39607 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7921.400 FPS
39642 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7928.400 FPS
39632 frames in 5.0 seconds = 7926.400 FPS
This is more like it.. I think I can do some tweaking an get 9000 ...
I wish i knew what kernel options in genkernel was killing the nvidia drivers..
Oh well.. Im up and running now..
Cheers
