When trying to create partitions in my G5 I have the following problem: I can create the bootstrap partition, but after having created the partition for /dev/sda3 I don't get asked for a name - which is why I cannot name it swap. Instead it is a normal Linux partition that is called "B". When creating another partition, everything is fine once again. I don't understand this since it means I cannot create a swap partition as /dev/sda2 (which I would like to do). Anyone? |

The name of a partition is immaterial for the function. Swap partitions are normal (Apple_UNIX_SVR2) partitions which are later initialized with a swap filesystem. So you should be good to go.
I am not sure why you are not allowed to name your partition, maybe you can create the rest of the partitions and then delete the (projected) swap and create it anew. I agree that t would be handy to have descriptive names, I am just saying that this is not a show stopper. _________________ Quid latine dictum sit altum videtur |

I thought the type of the partition was wrong but if mkswap changes it to "Linux swap" then I have no problem. Thanks. |

The name (actually the type) won't change, but the partition will work as swap once you run mkswap on it, so you are good to go even without the name (type) change. I am assuming that the type of the partiton is correct (Apple_UNIX_SVR2), the name as I said is utterly immaterial. _________________ Quid latine dictum sit altum videtur |
