I'm currently using gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r4 and emerged the new nvidia drivers (nvidia-kernel 7174, and nvidia-glx 7174-r1), and when I attempted to modprobe nvidia, I was iven the message "nvidia.ko: invalid module format", so I went to revert to the stable drivers and discovered that they will not compile. Anyone else having this issue, or have any fixes? I'm basically stuck with using the nv drivers or using windows for the time being, neither of which are very great. |

I had the same thing happen. The solution for me was to recompile my kernel and modules, and then emerge the new nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx. I saw a post on here about a similar problem that gave me the solution. It basically said that: if you compile your kernel with one compiler, then the nvidia modules need to be compiled using that same compiler. I don't remember which version of GCC I used to compile my kernel, so I just recompiled the kernel (only takes 4 minutes on an opteron) to be safe. Hope that helps. |

Ok, I got them working again. I did what was suggested in this thread, and it seems to work. |
