Posted: Sun Apr 03, 2005 9:21 am Post subject: System clock running twice as fast |
|
|
I have a weird problem: my system clock runs much faster when I'm on Gentoo, seconds seem to pass 1.5-2 times faster than real time.
The really weird thing is that it doesn't happen at every system boot: sometimes it does, sometimes the clock runs normally.
When this happens, I noticed that also double-click detection on X (windowmaker) is faster, that means I have to double-click much quicker to roll windows and so on.
Double click is always normal on some applications (selecting text in OpenOffice, etc.)
On Windows it runs fine.
I have a P4 Mobile Hyperthreading on a Sony Vaio, vanilla kernel 2.6.11-2 (but it happened also with previous 2.6 kernels).
Could it depend on some kernel configuration?
These are my kernel settings for the "processor type" section:

Any help is highly appreciated, as this feature messes up all the syncronization jobs among my machines.

I knew Gentoo was supposed to be faster, but this is ridiculous...
Sorry, couldn't resist. If you get rid of the two HPET options does this still happen? _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto

Ok, I removed the HPET feature (what is it really useful for?), rebooted a couple of times and everything looks fine. Now Gentoo runs as fast as Windows, hehe.... everyone has been once (NOT in another life) a newbie. Thanx for the tip!

Glad it's solved Can you please add [SOLVED] to the thread title so people can find the solution easily if they encounter something like this? _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto
