Haveing some trouble with the latest build (actually had the same with other builds)
I install the version 5 build and it works fine.
After a reboot I get the following when /etc/init.d/vmware starts
Code:
Starting Vmware services                           [ok]
 Vmware machine Monitor                            [!!]
 Virtual ethernet                                  [!!]
 Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0                 [ok]
Host only networking on /dev/vmnet1               [ok]
Host only networking on /dev/vmnet8               [ok]
 NAT service on /dev/vmnet8                        [ok]

doing an lsmod I have the following loaded:
Code:
parport_pc             30404  0
parport                32456  1 parport_pc
vmnet                  26908  12
vmmon                 103948  0

but as soon as I try running vmware I get:
Code:
# vmware
vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/opt/vmware/bin/vmware-config.pl.

Once I again run the config script everything loads again and then I can run without issues.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

RattyMan

which beta file type did you download? the "gz" version? the RPM?

and how did you install that package?

and are you on a 32 or 64bit system?

It was the tgz.
I used portage, unmasked the package and emerged.
It's on a 32bit system, AMD 3200+ CPU.

Thanks

OK, solved this. The only way was to remove vmware and more importantly, remove all the scripts:

/etc/vmware/, /etc/init.d/vmware, /lib/modules/*/misc/vm*.o,

Then re-emerge and that solved it.
