|
|
I downloaded and am currently using the Gentoo 2.4.20 patched kernel. It changed some things though in the config for ACPI support. Normally I select bus manager, processor, and system... but the only options in the patched kernel are: AC Adapter, Battery, Button, Fan, Processor, Processor -> Thermal Zone, Toshiba Laptop Extras, and Debug Statements... I tried adding them all, tried just selecting what I "thought" I should use... and all my system does when I try to halt it.. is shuts down my hds, then reboots...
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks |

I had the exact same problem with ck-sources and the patched gentoo-sources on my new P4 box. I eventually just compiled my kernel without ACPI although I'd still love to get it working. |

I'll take a stab at this, I dealt with something similar in Slack 8.1...
In 2.4.20 I had to enable the prompt for incomplete/experimental (or whatever it's called these days) option to get anything ACPI to show up in power management options. I wasn't sure if ACPI would power down my box or if I had to let APM do it so I modularized both. After recompile I had to modprobe the "system" ACPI module (which loads the "bus" module also) and then my box would power off. I just threw a modprobe ospc_system (I can't remember exactly what it's called, in winblowz ATM) line in Slackware's /etc/rc.d/rc.modules script right where the commented out modprobe apm was. I have yet to install Gentoo so someone who has will have to chime in with the correct startup script to throw this command into. |

This one is easy:
Just add the name of the module in the file /etc/modules.autoload
