|
|
Installing 64bit version and I edited the mouse protocol "IMPS/2" and device settings "dev/input/mice" and added new option
"ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
I did: mv //xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Now when I do X -configure I get "failed to load module "i810" (once-only module, 32767)
Using config file: "//xorg.conf.new"
Xorg is not able to detect your mouse
Edit the file and correct the Device
As a newbie I would be glad of any help
Thanks

cat /dev/input/mice
and then move the mouse.
if you get garbage on the screen then it's the right device... if not try /dev/input/mouse0
then change it in your xorg.conf
PS: if the garbage it prints on your screen screws your console up, just type in reset and press enter (even if the chars "reset" dont appear on teh screen the command will still work -- and reset your terminal :p _________________ "I do not fear computers. I fear lack of them." - Isaac Asimov |

Thanks Hayl,
I tried that and the mouse created lines of gobeldygook
so my setting of "/dev/input/mice" must be ok?
What next please |

You have to edit your xorg.conf file
open the file
Code: |
nano -w /etc/X11/xorg.conf
|
Find the section called "Input Device" and modify the "Option Device"
Code: |
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
|
Save the file.
Thats it! _________________ **************************

And then...
Code: |

That all depends on your system.
For me, I use...
Code: |
mount /dev/hda4 /mnt/gentoo
chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
|
Question....how did you view your xorg.conf file if you are not already chrooted into your system? _________________ **************************

I chrooted and got "no such file"
I was in the system but put the cd back in and now this.....
Thanks for your patience |

Reboot your system with the disk inside the CD tray. After if boots up try the chroot command. _________________ **************************

Nope, same prob.
I installed the 32 bit version on another box with stage 3 and genkernel and it works great.
With this 64 bit ver I did a stage 2 and manual kernel config.
Maybe I should try it the same way I did with the 32 bit?
WHat do you think?
