Before:
/dev/hda Windows and MBR with Grub etc
/dev/hdb Gentoo
/dev/hda packed up -> binned.
/dev/hdb now promoted to hda, but oddly enough doesn't know how to start itself.
Please could someone tell me how to make /dev/hda1 boot?
Many thanks

Assuming you used grub on the other drive, re-run grub-setup like you did when you installed it. _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto

Yup. Boot livecd, mount everything the way you want it to be mounted (except under /mnt/gentoo instead of /, as with install), chroot, and you're in. Then just install grub as per usual (as in installer). You may want to edit /etc/fstab too. |
