Is it possible to print to a lpd server on another computer using cups? If not, is there a way to install lpd, because I don't seem to find it in the package list? I've tried to emerge lprng, but it conflicts with cups, and i can't remove it either, because probably some programs depend on it... |

I don't know if this is exactly what you want, but my printer is on my firewall, and I use cups to print to it. I use the cups web interface to set things up (localhost.631) When you add a printer, it will ask for a device, right after entering the name, location, and description. Choose lpd, then follow the instructions for the format of the hostname entry.

If you are using KDE, there is a very nice "add new printer wizard" in the control-center under perhiperal setup that might be easy for you to use also.
