Hi,

I was wondering how it comes that Gnome 2.10 and earlier don't have the option logout, reboot, shutdown, hibernate, standby etc, when logging off the Gnome.
My understanding goes as far as it's customizables and depends upon some configuration files, like for the hibernate option.

Now, how can I make my Gentoo Gnome 2.10 show these options ? I'd really like to know :)

I can imagine I'm not the only one looking for this.

I'm still using gnome 2.8:

Go to Applications -> System Tools -> Configuration Editor

check the following key:
/apps/gnome-session/options/logout_prompt

I remember reading another forum post saying that the reboot, shutdown options don't work. I set this
so that I don't accidentally logout (and lose work) when I'm trying to select the "Lock Screen" option.
I rely on GDM for the reboot/shutdown functionality.

That only confirms logout in 2.10.
I'll gonna dig inside gconf after work to find out.

I found it. Appearantly you need to have xdm (gdm) running as well. Without it, you can only logout.
With it, 2 options where added: shutdown & restart.

It's a shame to use xdm for it... I liked my bootsplash & framebuffer console :p
