|

hi, I've been struggling to get the nvidia drivers working on 2.6.11 without any success. Works fine on 2.6.10-r6/r7 but the whole machine completely locks up with 2.6.11-r3/vanilla. X starts, reads xorg.conf, then blank screen and hang. "nv" driver works, no problem. This is on a Sun w2100z with a FX1100, using 2005.0 profile (also tried with 2004.3) with nvidia versions 6629, 7167,7174. And ideas? thanks. |

Nor 64 bits here, but for me 2.6.11 locks with almost anything...
I get hard locks with nvidia, but other issue that really bothers me is that i can't even compile hsfmodem drivers. So i still use 2.6.10, that work nicely. I think that the first 2.6 gentoo-sources is going not so well... |

Just tried 2.6.11 vanilla with 7174 and it seems to work...so far. Last time I tried 2.6.11 vanilla was on 2004.3 and it didn't work. Anyway my 2.6.10-r6 isn't entirely stable with 7169--there are some random X lock ups. |

Yeah, I have random lockups too in 7174, 2.6.11 64bit 2005.0 everyhing..
it looks like this in the log:
Quote: | [kernel] NVRM: Xid: 23, L1 -> L0 | (usually repeats a few times)
Sometimes the sound continues to loop during the freeze (this is only during extensive game play btw). Sometimes it hard locks. Sometimes I can get in via ssh. When this happens, the game and xorg are chewing 100% of the cpu. The only solution is to kill the processes and then restart the machine.
I've seen reports from x86 users of the same problem, though don't know if we'll see a fix ever. The freeze comes, as I said, when I'm playing a game like ut2004. It might take 15 minutes, it might take 3 hours, but eventually it'll lock. No mouse, no nothin'.
